Product Description

Size: 40" bust, 43" hips.

In History of 20th Century Fashion, by Elizabeth Ewing she states, "Beach pyjamas, with flaring legs, had been anticipated by slim lounging pyjamas, which Chanel was making in the early 'twenties and which were soon being worn by the fashionable. The beach ones, however, had a life all their own and were worn exclusively on beaches everywhere, usually with backless sun-tops or sleeveless blouses....It was the beginning of a new category of clothes, the start of the 'casuals' which were to have a great vogue in future years."

This pattern was published by an independent pattern company or one of the many patterns sold through newspapers and magazines. Originally the pattern was described as "Ladies' and Misses' pajamas and jacket. Jacket has open front and loose-hanging set-in sleeves. Waist of pajamas has suplice fronts and yoke front and back. Tie-belts are attached to right front of waist and tie at back. Attached wide-leg trousers closed at left side." Minimal directions. Pattern dates circa 1930-1931.

Suggested fabrics: Beach pajamas were made of cotton broadcloth and cotton pongette. The colors were blue, peach, green and white.

Materials required: 4-3/8 Yds. 36" wide fabric.

This Vintage Revivals pattern is only one size; the original size. The pattern envelope, instructions and pattern pieces are unedited. The older the pattern the more likely it is to have limited instructions. This pattern is printed on blue line paper and packaged in plastic.
