Round, bell shaped crinoline petticoat or hoopskirt made with steel hoops suspended by tapes. The soft leather waist belt with brass buckle is adjustable. 128" in circumference at the bottom hoop. First patented in the United States in 1856, this style reached its height in the early 1860s. It was extremely popular due to the freedom of movement and departure from previous styles where the fasionable shape was only achieved by the use of mulitple, cumbersome petticoats. I needed to replace a VERY expensive cage crinoline, which suddenly became fragile. I chose this one. Customer Service was extremely helpful, providing illustrations of actual ladies in their hoops, which made my mind up about any needed extra length.
The hoop came instantly, is absolutely gorgeous, sturdy, and of much stronger materials. Packing was secure and kind to the hoop. I have yet to wear this hoop. I did not give it 5 stars as I would have liked the loose front ends to be joined by a tie, as my older hoop is done. But, a GREAT feature is the leather waistline! WOW! Also, the cotton fabric at the hem - my old hoop has this and I really like it. This hoop was recommended by a highly respected dressmaker, who has worn and liked hers for three months now. It seems to be at the top of quality available these days.
