Product Description

This pattern is multi-sized Small through Extra-Extra Large. The Hoop Skirt requires 3-1/4 Yds. and the Hoop Flounce requires 2 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabric for all sizes.

The Hoop Skirt with Hoop Flounce is a pattern which Saundra Altman pulled from an original. A hoop skirt is necessary to create the full Dickensian bustled silhouette popular from the mid-1850s through the mid-1860s. The Historical Notes included with the pattern trace the origin of hoop skirts and references to their acceptance in newspapers, diaries and ladies' magazines of the era.

The circumference for the everyday hoop in the smallest size is 105 inches, for the largest size it is 120 inches. The Hoop Flounce buttons on to create an even fuller evening silhouette of 130 inches for the smallest size and 145 inches for the largest size.

The Hoop Skirt is illustrated with PP707 Chemise. PP706 Petticoat and Drawers works with the hoop skirt for ordinary wear. To make the PP706 Petticoat fit over the evening size hoop flounce cut out two back panels and make the placket at the center back seam. Consider ordering the PP703 Dayton Skirt Supporting Corset and/or the PP720 Madam Foy Skirt Supporting Corset. Both of these corsets have a curved reed sewn in at the back below the waist which supports the weight of the Hoop Skirt.
