Jacket, vest, and loose-fitting trousers. This suit, reminiscent of the costume worn by the janissary of Turkey, was introduced to North Africa by the privateers of the Barbary Coast. Instructions are included for traditional construction, including elaborate soutache braid trim, as well as a more contemporary styling. This pattern was adapted from clothing in the collection of the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York.
Suggested fabrics: Medium to heavy weight wool, cotton, linen, silk. Original suit is made entirely of wool broadcloth.
