Men's and Women's Sizes S, M, L

The Tunic (Gbariye), Trousers (Sokoto) and Hat in this pattern are traditionally worn by the Yoruba men of Nigeria. They are usually made of narrow-band strip cloth and embellished with hand or machine embroidery. A stunning outfit on women as well as men, the garments are meant to be loose, full and comfortable. The Tunic is made from one large piece of cloth made up of narrow strips alternating with wedge-shaped godets. It slips on over the head and has a faced keyhole neckline. The Trousers are sewn from three pattern pieces and can also be made from strips. They feature a full drawstring waist and taper to a narrow mid-calf length hem. Great for fiber artists and fabric lovers, you'll make this pattern again and again. Almost any fabric will do, from your own woven strips to regular yardage-just tear it into strips and sew the strips together again.

Suggested Fabrics: cottons and cotton blends, wool, rayon and silk. Weight of facing fabric should be similar to or slightly lighter than garment fabric.
